Empty stubs

Please don't create totally empty stubs. If you're doing this to help yourself to organize things, you could rather do it on your user page or on a sub-page of it. Empty pages are not the same as stubs: ppl browsing the stubs expect to find small or tiny articles to expand, ppl browsing wanted pages expect to find pages in need to be created. Creating empty stubs is equivalent to artificially moving some wanted pages to the stubs category, where they don't belong, and where the ppl looking for them won't search...

And also, btw, PC is different from Windows. You can see here a non-exhaustive list of exploitation systems that fall under the "PC" category ;) Patheticcockroach 21:25, 27 October 2008 (CET)

I also forgot, since this is not Wikipedia but a wiki targeted to ppl with a least some computer or console knowledge, we chose not to link to the platforms from the game infoboxes for the moment. I mean, we don't expect to have many users who need to check what Windows or Linux is ;) However, this choice might change once we have a page for every platform. Nothing's sure yet. Patheticcockroach 21:31, 27 October 2008 (CET)

I updated the infobox with the public domain license box, because I assumed that what you meant by "license: none". Note also that you could achieve a much lower file size by compressing the picture in PNG instead of JPG (because it contains very few colors and not that many shapes).Patheticcockroach 14:52, 15 February 2009 (CET)

WB :)

Welcome back and nice screenshots (and with infoboxes, too! ;)) Patheticcockroach 09:42, 16 May 2009 (CEST)

Games developped and/or published by dtp entertainment

I noticed you added quite a few games published by dtp. However, it appears that w:The Black Mirror was developepd by Future Games, w:Syberia by Microïds, w:Dreamfall: The Longest Journey by Funcom, etc (and also they are not listed on [1]). Any reliable source on these info? Patheticcockroach 21:35, 29 May 2009 (CEST)

Source has been, 1. by the site itself dtp Entertainment, publisher of the Games: Black Mirror, NiBiRu, Syberia, Syberia 2, Dreamfall: Longest Journey, Longest Journey (all them were found in the advanture game collections of dtp Soft) 2. as from game play, at the begin the dtp logo appears and proove it as a dtp Soft published game.

so, they just publish them packed, nothing about developing... Viraba 21:51, 29 May 2009 (CEST)

Nice one, good you speak German so you can browse their site in German version, which seems more complete than the English one! Patheticcockroach 22:42, 29 May 2009 (CEST)

so 1:0 for me? ^^, I thought of that games, cause i played them all through, and everytime saw the sign of dtp Soft, and so I added.

btw.: the whole thing was randomly! I selected to look for a random page, and bam! so I saw this, and thought about my old games. ( not really old, the think of that I play it some times, and beat some times Petr Stasek, at stealing the blue sphere of truth, or how that is called :P ) but still good, that I woken my inspiration to it and my interest... Viraba 23:12, 29 May 2009 (CEST)

Yup, quite cool. And that's how it works: you browse the wiki and think "oh, I could add this thing I know about better than what's written on the wiki yet" and then you make the wiki better :) Patheticcockroach 23:31, 29 May 2009 (CEST)

external links

Please avoid linking to external websites from inline text within articles. Usually, only references or external downloads should point to external websites. Game developers and publishers should point to a W4G page about the developer/publisher, and this page would contain the link to the developer/publisher's site. Patheticcockroach 16:21, 30 May 2009 (CEST)

As long as we don't support some pages to developers and publisher, I thought would be good redirecting them to the publisher / developers page, otherwise, I could redir them to wikipedia.org pages, if that would be better... Viraba 16:23, 30 May 2009 (CEST)

Then I suggest you make simple stub pages with just a link to the website. This way we won't need to re-edit all the pages when the developer page is done. Patheticcockroach 16:27, 30 May 2009 (CEST)

Good idea, so if we got time then we will edit them too, but first are the very wanted pages on turn, then we jump to the devs and pubs :) Viraba 16:38, 30 May 2009 (CEST)

Just to make things clear, making a megastub (or even a stub) doesn't count in the 30 pages count for PCZ ;) Patheticcockroach 16:48, 30 May 2009 (CEST)

I never said that, and I never let a work unfinished, how can you say that to me? :'-( I do the work finish, not so as Duke Nukem Forever (sorry Duke :P) that I wait for 12 years to get a work done. Ok, that about Duke I sorry, but I do all my works finished, and I sit before the PC and ONLY on wiki, ether playing nor something else. Just doing, so as I am journalist ^^ Viraba 16:52, 30 May 2009 (CEST)

I know you never said that, but I still wanted to make it totally clear, just in case other PCZ members use your contributions as an example without being careful about what I posted at first. Btw, the picture you uploaded is a duplicate ;) Funny that we play so much the same games that we make the same pages ;) Patheticcockroach 16:55, 30 May 2009 (CEST)

So 1:1 -.-, and yes I know what you mean, that some ppl use a void newpage template and say that they made at least 1 page, that even was only copied from a template page :P I will try to study them into other things Viraba 17:00, 30 May 2009 (CEST)

W4G icon?

Since it seems that you like making artwork, I was wondering if you'd be interested in making an icon for W4G. The icon needs to be 32px x 32px, in BMP or PNG (then it's easy to convert to ICO for instance with this http://www.convertico.com/). Patheticcockroach 14:32, 21 June 2009 (CEST)

could be good work for me ^^... I would make it in Illustrator, but one think I had to know: which principe or how it should look like? I can make some examples if you want.... Viraba 15:54, 21 June 2009 (CEST)
For the size it would be, I suppose it could be either our logo made tiny or an icon just saying "W4G" (with the usual colors of course ;)) Patheticcockroach 16:08, 21 June 2009 (CEST)
resolutions: 256x256,128x128,64x64,32x32,16x16, and Trayicon 8x8, I suppose to make Viraba 16:18, 21 June 2009 (CEST)
A favicon must be 32x32 (or 16x16, but we'll try 32x32 I think ^^). You can make bigger if you want, but in the end we'll have to shrink it anyway. Patheticcockroach 16:20, 21 June 2009 (CEST)
I don't know now exactly the principe how to make the logo (better said, I need inspiration, which I can't get during such time stress, cause I have to be since an hour at the soocer play field :P) I just quickly made some examples, at the standard icon princip (sry for that, I don't got that much time now :P) (thought the links of the converterpage would stay, pittily they went off :P, gonna set the icos somewhere else...) I ll make some new one's in Ai and set it back in Ps (I found a new plug in for Ps, so I don't really need the convertico.com converter) higher resolution existing if you want...
since then,
Viraba 17:29, 21 June 2009 (CEST)
Okey, I uploaded them at one of my funpic pages 32x32 64x64 128x128 Viraba 20:08, 21 June 2009 (CEST)
Great job! Can you see it in your browser now? ;) Patheticcockroach 22:13, 21 June 2009 (CEST)
Yes I can, only I thought of makeing a much better logo, or an other way going logo, if you want something other...Viraba 22:28, 21 June 2009 (CEST)
Well, we tried to motivate some designer friends of us to make us a better logo, but they said the current one was good enough ^^ Still I remain open to other logo propositions, as I indeed like the current one but I'm not very comfortable with the fact that we use a standard template that I quickly found somewhere on the internet (on an unknown free templates site the name of which I don't even remember) and I think it would be better to have an original logo rather than a standard template one. Patheticcockroach 23:12, 21 June 2009 (CEST)
So what do you think:
Shoud I create a new logo, inspiration getting by looking at some contributions and then complete it? Or should we let it like so it is now?
Luckily I got time, since the holidays, done with any exams and other things, so I would have time to do it.
Just waiting for your "yes"... Viraba 23:18, 21 June 2009 (CEST)
Well, feel free to post your drafts. If that's what you most feel like doing, that's what you should be doing :) Patheticcockroach 07:51, 22 June 2009 (CEST)
just got a bit more time and did a little walliee Link to Imageshack.us to see pic. hope you got a little sweet taste of ^^ Viraba 18:14, 23 June 2009 (CEST)
Wow all those game covers look pretty nice :) And they also make me think that we should remove the "games for Windows" bar on the game covers which have one... Just a little note: there's no "s" to "game" in "The free video game wiki" ;) Patheticcockroach 20:53, 23 June 2009 (CEST)
I realized it, as I posted the link up here -.-, what matters cause of a "s" ? :P And No, why removing the "Games for Windows" Bar? you can set "versions" of game covers, just like you did at Anden's CoD5 WaW cover, I would prefer adding more versions of the cover, then removing the bar, you can compare for example the xbox 360 box art with the PC box art, so it got a change if you can see. hope I ll get again that much time to do more of them, if wanted... Viraba 21:13, 23 June 2009 (CEST)
The "game for [some platform]" bar is always the same. What we should try to get is, like they try to at Wikipedia, the artwork with as little logos as possible. If there are different artworks, keeping them is good. But uploading several "different versions" which only differ by the logos they carry is pointless. The only reason why I uploaded a Windows version over Anden's Wii version is because it had a much higher resolution, not to make a gallery with Windows and Wii logos :D Patheticcockroach 21:56, 23 June 2009 (CEST)

Image sources

Hi :) The "source" field is supposed to be the place where you found the picture. If you found it on the web, it should be the URL of the page where you found it or the URL where the picture is. If you made it from the game (screenshot), the source is the game and the author is yourself (and the copyright is the game editor(s) and publisher(s)). See for example File:Crysis Warhead front cover.jpg, File:Crysis - landscape.jpg and File:Rayman - front (fr).jpg. Patheticcockroach 21:47, 29 June 2009 (CEST)

actually it is a screenshot from the "Meet the Scout" video and Valve made all their "Meet the..." videos by their own, so I took Valve (hope you're not confused anymore ^^) Viraba 21:52, 29 June 2009 (CEST)
Oh... original ^^ Then I'd say in the source put the URL of the video or something like "screenshot from the [name of the video] video" Patheticcockroach 22:53, 29 June 2009 (CEST)

Articles updates

Hello Vira,

You've forgot one San Andreas melee weapon, a very special one, if you see which :P

After, I'm waiting for the achievments, Thrall is "busy" about weapons...

Thanks for reading, User:Mateos Monday 6t, 12:24 GMT+1

You mean the fist? If that I think it's not really nessesary cause you got it already ^^ (I listed only weapons, so if you think of fists can be bought or found somewhere, then you are welcome to add it ^^, otherwise I do again :P ) Viraba 12:42, 6 July 2009 (CEST)
oh, as I got that what you meaned, I remembered the thing I forgot :P (meele weapons: flowers and the dildo... :P)
I have to look for the things in the font type or extract it from the TXD file, will take some time but gonna update it... Viraba 12:52, 8 July 2009 (CEST)

Talking to IPs

On wikis people usually don't talk to IP users unless either it's an IP who makes numerous and regular edits or it's a vandal. The reason for this is simple: someone can make an edit without registering and never come back, or come back with another IP, and in all these cases they won't get the message. But, well, it's okay to talk to them if you really want to, but it's most often like speaking alone :D and it should be done within a short time after the edit made by the IP (2 days later you have almost no chance to reach the user). Patheticcockroach 14:52, 8 July 2009 (CEST)

Who knows ^^, maybe he will see it, and ye a bit to late :P... I am happy for every good thing, just replied a bit to late, but I show my respect in a way :) Viraba 17:30, 8 July 2009 (CEST)

Nice userbox :) It would be nicer to have (if possible) the precise URL where you found the logo, particularly since I suppose it contains proof of the license. Patheticcockroach 19:10, 17 July 2009 (CEST)

Well actually I found the logo here, but it was just a tutorial and I just took it as a proper logo, and cause Pretice has tried to set it as a UB at his page :P
hope u aren't angrey :P Viraba 20:43, 17 July 2009 (CEST)
No problem ^^ But then you should use this URL as the source (and/or the page where you found it). Any info on the copyright? Actually I find it highly not "microsoftish" that "anyone [can] use [the logo] for any purpose", that's why I'd like to have a page on Microsoft's website saying so. You know, with all the money they get from forcing ppl to buy Windows with any new laptop, they can hire tons of lawyers to bother anyone doing anything they don't like :s Patheticcockroach 21:58, 17 July 2009 (CEST)
For a god dammit logo? what a fault of mine, why not created a neo-windows logo, so they would not get here, and when they are already here to piss off soon ^^.
I don't really know about the whole story of usage of the logo, they got only a copyright on, so other corporation, organisation and blabla don't use it as their business wenting logo, short they are not allowed to use it for marketing or selling things with that logo on, maybe you can get a permission from them, what I don't think in ^^. I won't,don't think of they would frisk our resources and so on for a logo, which is used for a single harmless Userbox... :P Viraba 00:06, 18 July 2009 (CEST)

TF2 subpages

I'm not sure if we need to create tons of subpages while there is still almost no contents on them. The usual order is we place too many contents on a page and then we split it, not we split it from the beginning while it's still empty :p OMG, it's not a fortress, it's a farm... a link farm! :D ;) Patheticcockroach 20:56, 20 July 2009 (CEST)

Chill, chill xD
I just set ze linkze so I put tha damn content latR to it :P, while I do this, watch this xD Viraba 22:09, 20 July 2009 (CEST)

OK, Ok is there anychance you could put the notice somewere? Need some keywords bad... Please add some of your own... Prentice 15:58, 11 August 2009 (CEST)

hmm, why not telling that in other places and communities? you can advice them to that, to add key words, or sending multi private messages in the wiki..
just a little hint.. Viraba 16:14, 11 August 2009 (CEST)
Sorry i don't understand you...Prentice 16:39, 11 August 2009 (CEST)
you said, you want to collect keywords from the others. I said, why you don't gather some people, maybe from other communities making some advertisment for us, so they get here, and maybe add their key words, to yours searching, so you can research and write down the stats.
idea? Viraba
Nice Idea... But do you know anywere there advertises us?

Maybe you could add some...
I also founds some pieces of software that may do the trick...Prentice 20:38, 11 August 2009 (CEST)

Re: Houston, we have a problem...

It's ok, you did well :) Except maybe the IP bans should be rather around 3 months, since it's a user apparently borrowing others' IPs. I considered banning Tor IPs but didn't experience the necessity yet... I guess I'll have to have a look again at this anti-Tor extension... Patheticcockroach 18:37, 15 September 2009 (CEST)

Btw, congrats on being the first on it and on fixing the whole mayhem :) Patheticcockroach 18:55, 15 September 2009 (CEST)
I have to, even when I won't have the admin rights and stuff. Viraba 17:17, 16 September 2009 (CEST)

Re: Anti-Leech question

It's something I configured in Apache. The whole system is described there, although this is not exactly the primary point of the post (which is more about regular expressions): http://notepad.patheticcockroach.com/237/a-bit-on-regular-expressions-my-htaccess-files/ Patheticcockroach 14:18, 2 May 2010 (CEST)

Actually, the htaccess file used for W4G pictures is a little bit different, it's:

Crysis 2 devmode

Thanks for looking into this... the patches for Crysis really suck then lol. Unpatched game = broken, patched game = no fun... Btw I'm in Vienna right now ;) Patheticcockroach 17:08, 20 July 2011 (CEST)

I know I know :P I just don't know how to contact you x_x
Meh.. after all I wasn't able to get there, but you know that already :P I don't know if I could get to Switzelland next year, but I'll... try :p Viraba 22:24, 23 July 2011 (CEST)
Yeah, next time I move, I'll try to plan that better, too ^^ This time I wasn't really able to focus on anything else than the presentation I was doing. Would be much easier for a seminar where I just go as a "tourist" ;) Also not sure next time will be in Switzerland. They were still hesitating between that and Bristol, UK.
